Football Weekends break: Sweden August 2021!
We’re all desperate for some live football action so why not join us on a Football Weekends break this summer! We are considering a trip to Sweden in August but want your opinions on where to go!
We have two options: Gothenburg and Stockholm. Both offer the chance of a couple of games in great arenas, as well as plenty of free time to explore these delightful cities.
We are very confident the trip can go ahead in August. However if it cannot proceed due to pandemic-related reasons it will go ahead instead on a designated weekend in October. Below we will ask you to complete a very short, no obligation survey. Here are the options for you to consider!
Option A: Stockholm, August 27-30
Stockholm has two great new football arenas and we have selected a weekend when you can visit both!
Hammarby, Sweden’s best supported club who average home crowds of 24,000, take on champions Malmö at the Tele2Arena.
Meanwhile AIK Stockholm will play Örebro at the impressive national stadium, the Friends Arena.
Option B: Gothenburg, August 6-9
Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city, is a hotbed of football and we have selected a weekend where we can see the two top clubs!
IFK Gothenburg are twice UEFA Cup winners and they will be playing Stockholm rivals Hammarby at the Gamla Ullevi stadium.
Meanwhile BK Häcken, who finished third in 2020, play Östersund at their compact stadium across the harbour.
Please note: Fixture dates and times are still to be confirmed. Should a match become unavailable we will make every effort to replace it with another fixture.
How does a Football Weekends trip work?
It’s a group break but there will be plenty of opportunities to do your own thing. There will be a welcome gathering on Friday, and we will attend the matches together, but the rest of the time is your own – feel free to spend it with other members of the party or do your own thing. Explore the city, enjoy the nightlife, visit other stadiums. Your choice!
Our previous three trips have attracted a wide age group, united with a common love of football and travel. We will offer advice on other lower league matches taking place in the region over the weekend.
Here’s a few of the comments we received after our earlier trips!
‘The perfect football weekend, one we will never forget’ – Alan
‘Great to meet up with other groundhoppers after traveling solo most of the time’ – Kieran
‘A great introduction to German football. Superbly organised and hassle-free. Highly recommended’ – Steve
‘Jim was an ideal host who was very helpful and knowledgeable’ – Graham & Melinda
Sweden. It’s a bit pricey, isn’t it?
That’s a familiar question! And yes, there are of course cheaper parts of the world than Scandinavia. However some of the outrageous claims you may have heard are wide of the mark! Sweden is significantly less expensive than other Scandinavian countries, and the package we’ve put together ensures that many of your costs are covered before you arrive. We have experience of Sweden so we can advise you on how to seek out the best deals – for instance many bars and restaurants offer fixed price lunches, and happy hours for drinks.
How do I get to Sweden?
You’ll want to choose the best flight routes and times that work for you so we let you make your own arrangements: flights are not included in this package. However, we can make the arrangements for you if you wish (we simply add a small commission to the flight price).
There are regular flights from UK and Irish airports to Stockholm and Gothenburg and there are very affordable bus transfers (around £10 each way) from the airport to the city.
What’s the price?
Our package includes:
- 3 nights at a quality hotel (inc breakfast)
- Welcome drinks with FW editor Jim Stewart
- Quality match tickets to two games
- City travel card
- Welcome pack and tourist information
The price, based on 2 persons sharing, will be from £300pp and single options will be available.
When the trip destination is confirmed we will confirm exact prices, including price options for additional nights. Should other people in your party not wish to attend both games we are happy to discuss a slight amendment to the price.
So please let us know your thoughts below! There is no obligation to book.
